Deodorant

Most people might wonder what deodorant has to do with benefiting society. Well, I’ll tell you. Everyone has been in the situation where you are sitting next to someone who has really bad body odor and you really want to tell the person to stop smelling so bad. You know what I’m talking about. Now, just imagine if everyone smelled that bad all the time. That would be pretty nasty. However, a long time ago people did smell that bad all the time.

A couple hundred years ago there was a superstition that if a person would bathe, it would open the persons pores to “evil”. Now a days, we realize that this is not true , but back in the day they believed this. Due to the lack of bathing, everyone had really bad b.o. pretty much all the time. However, in the invention of deodorant didn’t come around until the early 1900s. So unfortunately for the smelly people from a long time ago, they had no way to cover up their horrible stench. As the years went on however, the makers were able to come up with many different kinds.

There are also many different kinds of deodorant to help cover up that smell. There in role-on, stick, antiperspirant, scented, and unscented. The traditional role-on deodorant is usually in a liquid form. It is applied under your arms which then dries. The even more traditional stick comes in a solid form. The stick is applied under the arms by rubbing it on. Around the 1960s the antiperspirant deodorant was invented for those of us who sweat a lot. Deodorant also comes in many different scents, such as shower clean, or sunset breeze. The basic, unscented, is ideal for someone who wants to smell their perfume or cologne rather than their deodorant. As we have evolved, there have been many different kinds which have helped to mask that smell which people find so repulsive.

Deodorant has evolved into an object to boast our self esteem. It makes us feel better about ourselves when we don’t smell like poop next to someone really special. I’m sure everyone has been in the situation where your sitting next to someone you know and you smell really bad for not putting on deodorant; its just embarrassing. Deodorant makes you feel good about yourself knowing it is going to keep you smelling good. Its just one less thing you have to worry about.

Deodorant is the most important technology invention because it is chemically made to cover up and eliminate our embarrassing smells. It benefits society because no one want to smell that. Smelling someones body odor is disgusting. Unfortunately, for the people living a couple hundred years ago, they didn’t have deodorant. So these people who rarely showered smelled bad all the time. Now a days, we have many different kinds and scents that you can chose from. It also helps us increase our selfesteem because we don’t smell bad. Although deodorant isn’t as complex as a computer, the little things are what matter most.
